“IBM is proud to partner with Diageo and SAP to bring our global business and digital transformation experience on this exciting journey.”

Diageo, the renowned producer of brands like Guinness, Smirnoff, and Johnnie Walker, has just announced a landmark partnership with global technology leaders SAP and IBM. The collaboration signals the beginning of a five-year business transformation program designed to modernize Diageo’s IT environment and standardize its operations across the globe. This initiative represents the company’s largest investment in technology and services to date.

Diageo’s Objectives

The digital transformation program aims to reshape Diageo’s business processes across the 180 countries where it operates. By leveraging market-leading technology and innovative business strategies, Diageo plans to enhance its decision-making capabilities, improve customer service, and increase business resilience in an ever-evolving external landscape. In an age where consumer preferences are continually changing, this program will also ensure that Diageo stays relevant and adaptable.

The Role of SAP and IBM

SAP’s S/4 HANA Cloud and IBM’s Consulting services will be instrumental in achieving Diageo’s objectives. Diageo will move to RISE with SAP S/4 HANA Cloud, ensuring that its IT infrastructure is simplified and uniformly supported. IBM Consulting, selected to lead the project, will leverage its extensive track record in the consumer sector to guide Diageo through this transition. Together, the three companies aim to apply the latest technologies to make Diageo’s business more efficient.

Impact on Business Finance Operations

The five-year program will introduce numerous enhancements to Diageo’s business finance operations. Advanced workflow solutions will enable real-time global order tracking, facilitating improved customer engagement and service. By transitioning to a single operating platform, Diageo plans to simplify its technology support model, making it easier to adapt to evolving consumer trends and market needs. Furthermore, the program will boost Diageo’s performance reporting capabilities, providing valuable insight into trade and growth opportunities. A significant milestone will be the digitization of controls and compliance, fortifying the business’s resilience and adaptability to changing market conditions.

Lavanya Chandrashekar, Chief Financial Officer, Diageo, reflected on the importance of this partnership, stating: “This partnership with IBM and SAP demonstrates our continued investment in digital transformation. It will enable greater agility in how we respond to our global consumer and customer needs. It will provide us with world-class actionable insights and enhanced data capabilities to support growth whilst allowing us to be more efficient in our day-to-day operations.”

Scott Russell, Executive Board Member, Customer Success, SAP, said: “In today’s disruptive consumer goods industry, success lies in navigating unpredictable supply chains, managing ongoing macro-economic volatility and staying one step ahead of ever-shifting customer demands. We’re proud to support Diageo in building a more resilient business that is enhancing the customer experience and can adapt to rapidly changing market pressures, realising its vision to revolutionize the consumer goods industry.”

Rahul Kalia, Managing Partner, IBM Consulting, UK & Ireland, said: “The consumer goods industry is striving to address the challenges posed by inflationary pressures and supply chain disruptions, while staying focused on delivering exceptional products and services for its customers and consumers. IBM is proud to partner with Diageo and SAP to bring our global business and digital transformation experience on this exciting journey.”

This journey with SAP and IBM signifies a monumental step in Diageo’s commitment to digital transformation, one that promises to redefine the consumer goods industry. This bold move serves as a reminder that businesses must embrace change, innovation, and digital solutions to maintain relevance and competitive advantage in the modern world.
