EdgeCore to Launch Data Center Campus in Reno by 2025

Edgecore

EdgeCore Digital Infrastructure embarks on the construction of its first Data Center Campus in Reno, Nevada, highlighting the ongoing expansion and development of the technology landscape. The new campus, comprising two data centers and an on-site substation, represents a significant stride in innovation and sustainability.

Data Center Campus in Reno: A Closer Look

According to a leasing report by 451 Research, Reno’s data center market is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 15 percent between 2022 and 2025, placing it among the top markets in the country.

Location Advantages

EdgeCore acknowledges Reno’s proximity to the Bay Area, just 250 miles away, and the availability of low-cost utility power and renewable energy options, contributing to the city’s appeal as the location for their Data Center Campus in Reno.

Cost Efficiency

As EdgeCore notes, Reno offers a 30 percent lower total cost of ownership compared to a comparable data center deployment in the Bay Area, making it an appealing option for major cloud and internet companies seeking data center space.

Utility Partnerships

EdgeCore has partnered with NV Energy for its Reno data center campus, with the utility power scheduled to be delivered by the second half of 2025. A substation is also underway, expected to be completed within the same timeframe.

Environmental Considerations

The Reno campus will utilize a closed-loop chilled water system to maximize water efficiency, aiming for a water usage effectiveness (WUE) rating below .01 L/kWh.

Network Diversity

EdgeCore says it has procured a 564-count fiber route in Reno, connecting the campus with the main exchange point at 200 South Virginia in Reno. This provides network diversity and resiliency to customers.

Acquisition and Funding

In November 2022, EdgeCore was acquired by Partners Group, a global private markets firm. Partners Group has committed up to USD 1.2 billion for the acquisition and development of EdgeCore’s data center sites, including those in the Reno area.

Development Projects

Other exciting projects initiated by EdgeCore in 2023 include locations in Silicon Valley, Ashburn, and the greater Phoenix area, as reported by TelecomTalk.

EdgeCore Showcases Commitment to Sustainability

EdgeCore’s ambitious data center development in Reno showcases the company’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and meeting the evolving demands of the digital era. The Data Center Campus in Reno is a promising step towards redefining the technological landscape, integrating efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and environmental stewardship.
